There has been some confusion with regards to Reliance Jio’s “Welcome Offer” which would entitle customers to three months of unlimited data, texts and calls. While Jio claimed that the promo will be available till the 31st of December, TRAI has now mentioned that it will only be valid the 3rd of December (i.e. 90 days since its launch) for existing users. However, Jio has confirmed that users will be able to consume the free benefits until the end of December as originally planned.
The freebies will only be valid if you purchase and activate a Jio SIM before the 3rd of December, apparently. Post this date, Jio’s tariff plans will come into effect, which we have found to be pretty competitive compared to the top networks. So here’s the short summary of this whole episode - if you want to avail all benefits of the Reliance Jio Welcome Offer, you simply have to get your hands on a SIM card and activate it before December 3. If you are successful in doing this, you will be able to get the free benefits until the 31st of December.
The Welcome Offer comes with a handful of caveats, though. Texts are only limited to 100 per day and unlimited high-speed data is only valid until 4GB, after which the speeds will be throttled. A recent survey mentioned that Jio’s 4G speeds are among the slowest in the country, which could probably be due to the high frequency of customers accessing the networks.
